While industry experts agree that business analysts, IT organizations, few people know exactly what they are doing. Underlining this, said a recent survey by the renowned market research firm Forrester titled, The New Business Analyst:

Everyone agrees on the importance of the role of business analysts, but few people know exactly what it is that doing business analysts … develop a new generation of business technology analyst, in order to play a new role in implementing changes to the policy directly in the software support.

What does this mean for business analysts today, especially in this economy? In short, they must proactively define their roles to keep their jobs.

The survey mentioned above says, there are basically two types of business analysts: those focused on business, and focused on it. But he went on to say that the lines are increasingly blurred between the two. There are two options for business analysts – they can expand their professional duties and straddles the fence between the two disciplines. Or they can reduce, by focusing on specific niche.
